Show One
The sound of the bus engine was coming up closer and closer. As expected the bus horn was heard repeatedly. “Marie! Hurry up, you’ll be late for school,” said Marie’s mom looking at the second floor. Marie ran downstairs just like she used to be. “Give mommy a big warm hug!” said her mom with a grim face, and just cool as a cucumber she quickly gave her mom a hug with a lollipop on her mouth. “I’ll be going,” Marie shouted, jogging backwards to the yellow school bus.
She hopped onto the bus and waved hello to the cold-looking bus driver. The engine started and headed towards school, while Marie tried to keep up with her balance to sit on the back row where her friends were. At last she was in peace, sitting with her friends. Marie’s brown wavy hair reflected the sunlight, “Hey, Marie did you hear about Suzy?” said Sharon, one of Marie’s friend, in an excited tone. “Not just Suzy, but also Jack,” interrupted another friend of her, named Abby. “No, Why?” said Marie in an anxious voice. “We spied on those two and they were doing pretty nasty things!” said Abby with a pulled face. Marie frowned and looked at Sharon’s eye. “Well we did spy, but it wasn’t that nasty they were just…” paused Sharon. “Too bad, Suzy took him away from you,” said Abby carelessly. Now Marie was not in the mood, because she had a crush on Jack before.
“It’s okay Miss. Ardill you’ll find a nice man someday,” comforted Sharon, patting Marie’s shoulder. Finally the bus stopped and everybody went off the bus and walked to their classrooms. Marie and her friends walked together in a steady pace, and on the way to their class Marie caught sight of Jack, this handsome-looking young fellow with brilliant blonde hair. Then the sight of Jack suddenly became a tragedy as Suzy, a rival of Marie, hugged Jack from the back and smiled cutely. Marie frowned for the second time today, and her friends quickly dragged Marie to their classrooms.
The school bell rang and it was time for class, Marie was out of energy and she just stared out of the window, daydreaming about Jack. “Marie, Marie, umm… Marie!” shouted Mrs. Hathaway, the English teacher. “Huh? Oh yes!” startled Marie, and the whole class laughed. But what made Marie more embarrassed and angry was that Suzy was giggling madly right next to Marie’s desk. “Pay attention, young lady,” said Mrs. Hathaway. And the whole class time continued on.
School finally ended, and Marie went back home on the school bus, she said she needed some rest, knowing what she meant her friends left her alone. At home Marie lay down on her bed sleeping with every bit of her energy depleted. Then her mom waked her up from downstairs, “Marie can you go to the grocery store for some tomatoes, I’m making spaghetti for dinner.” Hearing her mother shout Marie protested “I don’t want to!” “What was that Marie? You want to go to the circus show,” teased her mom. “Okay okay I’m going, jeez!” said Marie punching her pillow. Marie was abnormally afraid of the circus, especially those clowns, so there was no way to go against her mother’s request. Marie went downstairs tired and received just the right amount of money for the tomato sauce. “You’re mean,” said Marie to her mother, while her mother cheerfully smiles at her.
Later, Marie took a step out and saw that the street lights were turned on.
